We nearly had the crossover of all crossovers with Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody, after director Dexter Fletcher revealed he very nearly brought Rami Malek into his Elton John biopic.
Released in May, Rocketman follows the life of Elton John (played by Taron Egerton) and his meteoric rise to international superstar.
Dexter was brought into the mix to direct the later stages of Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was fired. It captivated audiences as a flamboyantly brilliant look at the life of Freddie Mercury (played by Rami) and the rise of Queen, taking us through his diagnosis with Aids.
The director was also at the helm of Rocketman and has now said he was tempted to bring the two films together because he, you know, had that power, we suppose.
Paining a rather perfect scene of sweet nature to fans, Dexter explained to Gay Star News he had the idea of having Ramis Freddie and Tarons Elton bump into one another while out to dinner one night.
There was an idea I had one point, where Eltons in a restaurant with his mother. I thought John Reid and Freddie could be at another table and they wave at each other! he told the publication.
That would have been amazing, but it didnt come to pass. It would have been a little too knowing… Im not looking to set out to make a cinematic universe!
Hey, we wouldnt complain if you did, Dexter!
We can only hope in the future Dexter gets his mits on a whole swag of other biopics in which he can weave these celebrities through.
Both films have proven box office gold for Dexter, with Rocketman this week passing the $100million (£78million) box office mark just a couple weeks after its release.
On the other side of the wallet Bohemian Rhapsody took in a massive $903million (£712million) during its cinematic run, and won a bunch of awards, with Rami also taking home the best actor Oscar.
More: Elton John
If the hype around Tarons turn as Elton is anything to go by, Dexter better prepare for another winning awards season some 2020.
