A sequel to Mary Poppins Returns is in the works, claims director Rob Marshall.
Admitting that they have a lot of material still to mine, Rob said that the production team at Disney were already hard at work poring over those incredible eight books of P.L. Travers and teased that you never know when inspiration could strike.
The highly anticipated sequel hits cinemas before Christmas and came 54 years after the original hit screens, starring Julie Andrews as the practically perfect nanny.
Emily Blunt took over the role of the titular character, and production John DeLuca added that Emily would be their first choice for another film.
Emily does light up when she speaks to me about it, DeLuca said, and if the people want it, I think it will happen.
Set two decades after the original, in the new story, our beloved Michael (played by Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) are all grown up with children of their own.
But after Michael suffers a personal loss, Mary Poppins re-enters their lives and helps the children, who are played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and Joel Dawson, rediscover the joy and wonder that is missing in their lives.
